Kaziranga National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is especially famous for its remarkable wildlife and beautiful landscapes. The place is in Assam, India, and boasts of the largest population of the one-horned rhinoceros worldwide. Grasslands, wetlands, and dense forests offer habitat to numerous animals such as tigers, elephants, wild water buffalo, and various bird species. Kaziranga is a rich biodiversity destination that has been conserved to create a premier destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers who can get a glimpse into the natural beauty and ecological significance of the region.
Day 1: Arrival and Journey to Shillong
Arrive at Guwahati Airport by noon and meet the Trikon Team. Begin your journey towards Shillong, enjoying the scenic route. Along the way, visit Umiam Lake, also known as Barapani Lake, and take in its serene beauty. Continue to Shillong, check into your hotel, and rest for the evening.
Day 2: Shillong Local Sightseeing
Start your day with breakfast at the hotel, then head out to explore some of Shillong's attractions. Visit Laitlum Canyon to enjoy the panoramic views and lush greenery. Next, head to Mawphlang Sacred Groves to explore the rich biodiversity of the sacred forest. Afterward, visit Elephant Falls, a beautiful three-tiered waterfall. Spend the evening shopping and soaking in the local culture at Police Bazaar. Return to the hotel for dinner and rest.
Day 3: Shillong to Mawlynnong to Dawki
Have an early breakfast and depart for Mawlynnong, the cleanest village in Asia. Take a leisurely stroll through the village, visit the single root bridge, and enjoy the cleanliness and beauty of the area. After exploring, continue to Shnongpdeng in Dawki. Set up camp by the riverside along the Umngot River, known for its crystal-clear waters. Enjoy a campfire, dinner, and relaxation by the riverside.
Day 4: Boating, Water Sports, and Cherrapunji
Begin the day with early morning boating on the Umngot River, with options for water sports like kayaking. After breakfast, depart for Cherrapunji. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring the surroundings. Enjoy a leisurely dinner at the hotel in the evening.
Day 5: Cherrapunji Local Sightseeing and Travel to Shillong
Begin the day with breakfast, then visit the Mawsmai Caves, a fascinating limestone cave formation. Continue to Nohkalikai Falls, the tallest plunge waterfall in India. After lunch, visit Wei Sawdong Falls and the Garden of Caves. In the late afternoon, start your journey back to Shillong. Check into your hotel and rest for the night.
Day 6: Shillong to Kaziranga
The drive is long but a scenic one as you see a transformation from the hilly terrain of Meghalaya onto the plains of Assam. En route we can spot numerous traditional Assamese homes with villagers working in the fields. A special feature of the Assamese household is a man-made fishpond made in the courtyard of every house.
After a period of relatively warm temperatures, soon we shall enter a cooler area, with fresher air, as you get closer to the national park. Visit Maha Mrityunjay temple en route which is one of the largest Shiva Linga in India. On reaching the hotel, relax as we sink in the silence after a long day’s drive.
Overnight stay at Kaziranga.
Day 7: Safari and Orchid Garden
Wake up to the sounds of nature and prepare for an exciting day in Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its diverse wildlife and stunning landscapes. After an early breakfast, embark on a thrilling Jeep safari through the park. As you traverse the vast grasslands and dense forests, keep your eyes peeled for the park's famous one-horned rhinoceros, majestic elephants, and a variety of other wildlife species, including tigers, wild water buffalo, and numerous bird species. The safari provides an excellent opportunity to capture the beauty and diversity of Kaziranga’s fauna in their natural habitat. (One can also opt for Elephant at their own cost.)
Following the safari, take a break and enjoy lunch at a nearby lodge or campsite. In the afternoon, visit the Kaziranga Orchid and Biodiversity Park, one of the largest orchid parks in India. This botanical haven is home to a stunning collection of native orchids, medicinal plants, and other floral species. Wander through the beautifully maintained gardens and explore the various sections, including the traditional Assamese huts showcasing local culture and crafts. The park also offers cultural performances that provide insight into the rich traditions of the region.
Day 8 : Kaziranga to Guwahati
Start your final day in Kaziranga with a hearty breakfast, savoring the last moments in this natural paradise. Check out from your accommodation and begin the scenic drive back to Guwahati, which typically takes around 5-6 hours. Head back to home with Happy Memories
