Somnath and Girnar: Sacred Gems of Gujarat
Somnath, on Gujarat’s Arabian Sea coast, is home to the revered Somnath Temple, the first of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. Rebuilt multiple times after historical invasions, its current Chalukya-style structure, completed in 1951, stands majestically by the sea, offering spiritual solace and stunning ocean views. Nearby, the Triveni Sangam and Bhalka Tirth add layers of sacred history, making Somnath a timeless pilgrimage site.
Girnar, a rugged mountain range near Junagadh, rises to 1,031 meters and is a spiritual haven for Hindus and Jains, dotted with ancient temples atop 10,000 steps. From the Jain Neminath Temple to the Hindu Dattatreya shrine, it blends devotion with adventure, enhanced by the Girnar Ropeway and views of Gir National Park. Steeped in history, with Ashoka’s edicts nearby, Girnar is a striking fusion of nature and faith.
